To ensure your garden is in tip top condition during July here are my top tips:-
- Treat weeds in lawns and feed your lawn with a quick-acting summer feed before rain is due;
- Keep sowing lettuce, radish and other salad crops for fresh supplies;
- Spray roses to control black spot, mildew and aphids;
- Continue to deadhead bedding plants, repeat flowering perennials and roses, to ensure continuous flowering;
- Water hanging baskets and containers at least once a day and feed once a week (in hot weather water in the morning or evening);
- Be water wise – use water from water butts and grey water from the house;
- Mulch borders with chipped bark to keep in moisture after watering;
- Stake larger herbaceous perennials;
- Give woodwork a lick of paint or preservative, when the weather is dry;
- Clear algae, blanket weeds and debris from ponds, and keep them topped up;
- Order catalogues for next year’s spring-flowering bulbs;
- Place conservatory plants outside now that it is warm;
- Above all ENJOY YOUR GARDEN!
