Aberdeen West End Back Garden
Design Brief
This client’s property was in the heart of the West End of Aberdeen. The hard landscaping was already designed and constructed in the back garden of the property. The brief was to create a planting plan.
The Design
The back garden had raised beds in place with a small amount of lawn already laid. There was also a mature birch tree already in situ in the space. The style of the hard landscaping was contemporary with rendered walls/raised beds and a large patio area. The client wanted low maintenance mixed planting in this space in a contemporary style with year round interest.
Plants needed to be understated in colour rather than a riot of colour. The client liked green, white and cream with leafy foliage. The back garden lent itself to having another feature tree possibly in the large bed near to the back of the house. The client also wanted some containers specified for the gravel area near the patio for some feature plants (preferably Corten/slate) as well as a trough for herbs near the kitchen door. It was also beneficial to the space to have some vertical planting (climbers) to cover the fence and some bulbs introduced for year round interest.
