Inverurie Cottage Garden

Design Brief

A planting design for a cottage garden in Inverurie.

The brief was to create a planting design for two borders in a front garden near Inverurie which was laid to lawn. The client wanted all year round colour and interest in this South West facing garden.  The client had already created two beds in this area – a circular one and rectangular one.  We decided on different colour themes for each bed to add contrast.  We designed the circular bed to have shrubs, perennials and bulbs in whites, purples and pinks. A weeping cherry is a focal point in the centre of this border. We selected plants for the rectangular border in reds, oranges and yellows with a red barked Cornus as a feature shrub.  Planting is hardy and low maintenance.

After – Inverurie Cottage Garden: Planting Design

The client now has an attractive and welcoming space leading up to their front door with lots of beautiful colour and all year round interest. The client also planted spring bulbs which we delivered in autumn to create some colour in the spring.  As part of the planting design, we included some shrubs for winter interest and structure.
